1:37 – Welcome To 2020 & The 37Archives

2020: The decade of disruption – the decade of scaled change.

Skip the read: We have a podcast:

Hey everyone! Welcome to 2020! Technology is moving quicker every day – I’m here to give you a road map.

First off: Welcome to the 37Archives. 37 days of blog posts, 37 days of podcasts. The goal of this endeavor is to predict the future – predict the decade – and predict how technology will change our lives. I’d like to personally thank all of you for reading these blogs and listening to the podcast – It’s a side quest that gives me so much joy to hear all of the feedback and comments I get from the thoughts off the top of my head. Absolutely amazing that we clocked in over 100,000 views on just a few posts last year – so thanks! Very, very much!

I promise, with all of my being – to never put ads on my website. I hate ads, I hate the concept, and I hate the fact that they get in the way. My goal, is to never make a dollar off these posts. This content is for you – so if you like my works – share them! It makes me happy!

First things first: In order to go forward, we need to look back.  A while ago I was sitting in my car, eating dinner at about 3am (which is pretty common when you’re a road warrior IT professional) and I came across some interesting content on YouTube. It was a fireside chat regarding Steve Jobs and his return to Apple – and how he was going to change the company. In this chat he outlined the future of the internet, how technology will change, and what the future would look like. In this talk he introduced the concept of networking – how our files and daily lives will be accessible from anywhere – and that this method of work would become commonplace in just a matter of a decade or so. He was right – and I was inspired. Drawing out a roadmap ahead of time, laying out some predictions and then executing against those predictions is a clear formula for success. Take a look!

So – where am I going with this? Simple. When Job’s introduced the first MacBook Air (12 years later about) – the world viewed it as crazy. A computer, with no hard drive space, no CD rom slot, and a promised of “networked computing”? Hindsight is 2020- it was the right move – but foresight takes guts – it means taking bold actions – it means executing against your vision when all others are looking down at you. It means trailblazing a new industry not through thoughts – but through actions.

This decade is about execution. While all others are out there talking about 5G – trying to figure out self-driving cars and robots – Take a look at what’s in front of us.

Absolute scale. Right now.

For the first time ever – you can have the entire computing power of the Boeing Airline Company in just a few hours. You are just a few clicks away from computing power you could only dream of owning just a decade ago. With scale, you can accomplish great things. No longer are there gatekeepers. There’s no one stopping you from taking an idea and going far with it. Overnight, you can go from 1-1,000,000 customers. And you would even need to get out of bed to change a setting.

Where am I going with this?

Those who choose to build instead of think – those who choose to do rather than wait – will win the 2nd ever greatest gold rush known to man: The intelligence era.

Call it the 4th industrial revolution.

We had steam

We had electric

We had computing

Now we have intelligence.

Simply put – We are going from:

How can I do work on a computer to get my job done?

To

How can I work with a computer to get my job done?

Tesla Autopilot, Uber, Lift, Doordash even – These are all tools that trade time and allow computing to deliver time saving experiences that allow you to either increase your productivity or decrease time needed to perform a task – or both.

Using this model – I’ll leave you with this. Audit your position in the world / workplace. Can automation be used to enhance your role in this world or replace your role in this world? Welcome to the next decade.

I’ll see you around tomorrow!
